MARCH 2026 – A trio of AP reporters, largely by reviewing 911 call recordings, have told what’s really going on at the US’s largest ICE detention facility, Camp East Montana, which is located in El Paso TX. The story is grim: Camp East Montana houses 3,000 people on a given day, and it’s a place of squalor, overcrowding, food shortages, and tales of suicidal thoughts and destructive behaviors. None of the major news outlets have focused much on this story, which news-wise may not measure up to the killings in Minneapolis. But it is no less damning of the federal government’s treatment of people it deems unacceptable, more than 80 percent of whom have no criminal charges against them.
The reporters are Morgan Lee, Ryan Foley and Michael Biesecker, and the story was published March 6.
