JULY 2025 – Politico from the start has been the ESPN of the political scene – everything and more for the serious follower of DC. But more recently it’s producing some newsy coverage. One of its young columnists, Ankush Khardori, is a 43-year-old, Columbia Univ.-educated lawyer (and former Paul Weiss associate) who this week made a simple but timely and compelling point about Trump: If the president is allowed to sue others, how come others can’t sue him? Khardori says it’s a Constitutional question open to debate, now that the US Supreme Court extended immunity to the president when engaging in “official acts.”
This all comes on the heels of July 17’s WSJ report on Trump’s bawdy birthday message to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003 – a report that, the next day, prompted Trump to initiate a defamation lawsuit in which he wants $20 billion.
