DECEMBER 2025 – It feels as though John Bolton is on the lam – the one-time Trump national security advisor was indicted in mid October for allegedly mishandling classified information, and since then most of the US op-ed pages have shunned him. For years he was a regular on WSJ op-ed pages. Still, he remains a fierce and effective critic of Trump, and British outlets – Times Radio, The BBC and The Telegraph have hosted Bolton for interviews or published his op-eds. (Not clear if Bolton has been able to leave the US; probably not.) Last week The Telegraph published Bolton’s take on the Witkoff coaching-the-Russians scandal; Bolton included the script of the telephone exchange between Witkoff and Putin’s advisor, which was initially posted by Bloomberg News. It’s an excellent and timely commentary.
Yes, The Washington Post published a Bolton op-ed on Nov. 12, agreeing with the administration on its attempt to oust the Maduro regime in Venezuela. But by and large the major US news outlets have kept Bolton, a clear and incisive writer, off their op-ed pages.
